Cristiano Ronaldo Seeks $626K From Woman’s Lawyer In Vegas Rape Case

Ronaldo was accused of breaching the contract after having allegedly paid $375,000 to the woman in 2010 to keep the incident to herself.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s legal team has knocked the US district court, seeking $626,000 from the lawyers of the Nevada woman, whose rape charge against the football star was dismissed earlier this year.

District Judge Jennifer Dorsey dismissed the lawsuit citing the lack of evidence. Dorsey concluded that the plaintiff’s lawyer relied on stolen documents and fabricated records. Ronaldo’s lawyer Peter Christiansen has asked the judge to make the woman’s attorney Leslie Mark Stovall pay the amount.

“Given Stovall’s abuses and flagrant misconduct, Stovall should be made personally responsible for ensuring Ronaldo is reimbursed for having to defend against his vexatious and bad faith conduct,” Christiansen said, as quoted by the Associated Press.

Ronaldo was accused of breaching the contract after having allegedly paid $375,000 to the woman in 2010 to keep the incident to herself. Ronaldo’s legal team never disputed that his client met the woman, but always maintained the sex was consensual. Meanwhile, Stovall argued that the woman was in no position to refuse such a hefty sum that Ronaldo paid to drop the legal charge.

During the final hearing last month, judge Dorsey slammed Stovall for flouting the court’s rules and regulations, and also closed her option to reopen the case.

“I find that the procurement and continued use of these documents was bad faith, and simply disqualifying Stovall will not cure the prejudice to Ronaldo because the misappropriated documents and their confidential contents have been woven into the very fabric of plaintiff claims,” the ruling said.
