5 Big Transfers That Could Still Happen This Summer Feat Ronaldo, De Jong
5 Big Transfers That Could Still Happen This Summer

These transfers are on the cards

Almost a week remains before the summer transfer window shuts down. While most of the clubs are already done with their business, there are a few more whose squad deficiency has been laid bare in the opening few games.

Chief among them are Manchester United, who started their season with two crushing defeats before bouncing back against Liverpool. If the first three games are anything to go by, the manager Erik ten Hag badly needs a world-class midfielder who can be paired up with Casemeiro. They will also require a backup striker, given how Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have blown hot and cold this season.

Similarly, Chelsea too has realized the need for a proper striker at the club. The arrival of Raheem Sterling has been a big positive, but they still needed a genuine striker who can capitalize on the chances. At present, Kai Havertz hasn’t been able to do that. Juventus, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich are also in the same boat.

Let’s take a look at five transfers that could still happen:

Cristiano Ronaldo

It’s no secret that Cristiano Ronaldo is desperate to move out of his boyhood club Manchester United. Ronaldo, 37 now, wants to spend the twilight of his career at a club that guarantees him European football. The United don’t offer that privilege.

Moreover, his playing style is not compatible with the philosophy of the new manager Erik ten Hag, who wants high-tempo football with relentless pressing. While clubs like Chelsea and Bayern Munich have already taken a step back after showing interest initially, there is still no dearth of mid-table clubs that would like to have the Portuguese in their rosters.

Frenkie de Jong

Earlier this month, it was reported that Barcelona has issued an ultimatum to Frenkie de Jong to leave the club. De Jong has been linked to clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich. Barcelona wants to offload him as it will help them ease the wage stress, but they have refused to fulfill the amount owed to the Dutch midfielder. Moreover, the club has also hinted to file a lawsuit over a discrepancy in contracts.

Bernardo Silva

After the Matchday 2 of the English Premier League, Bernardo Silva posted a cryptic tweet, thanking fans and his colleagues, and many thought it is a farewell letter. Silva, however, not only played the next match but helped Manchester City cancel the three-goal deficit against Newcastle United. Silva expressed his desire to leave Man City last year too, but the club doesn’t want to release him. If Barcelona manages to offload de Jong, they can utilise the cash to bring in Silva.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joined Barcelona last year only, but he may well return to Premier League before the summer transfer window ends. Barcelona already have a much superior goalie in the form of Robert Lewandowski, and they are now looking to sell Aubameyang to raise money. The premier league clubs like Chelsea and Man Utd are in desperate need of a striker, and both these clubs have identified the Gabonese as a primary option.

Leandro Paredes

If the departure of Adrien Rabiot was not enough, Juventus suffered another setback after losing out Paul Pogba for a couple of months due to injury. The club needs long-term reinforcements in the midfield to be able to challenge for the scudetto again, and they have zeroed down on the PSG’s Leandro Paredes.
