There seems to be a weird, online tug of war going on, and popular food-delivery app Zomato seems to be caught right in the middle of it. On one side, it is being criticised for airing ads on Arnab Goswami’s Republic TV, but at the same time, Arnab fans have threatened to boycott and uninstall the app if they stop.
It all started with actress Swara Bhasker’s tweet directed at Zomato. She wrote, “Hey Zomato, I’m your regular customer.. do u plan to #DefundTheHate & pull your ads from hate espousing channels like Republic? I’m not okay with my money even indirectly funding this kind of communal bigoted hate! Pls let your consumers know.”
Zomato were quick to respond to Bhasker’s tweet, claiming they don’t endorse anything on the channel except themselves.
But this didn’t sit well with Republic TV loyalists, and soon enough, tweets with #BoycottZomato and #UninstallZomato started pouring in. Scroll through some of the tweets below:
