This year YSL is getting some big time silver screen treatment with not one but two movies being released on the life of the legendary designer who died in 2008.
‘Yves Saint Laurent’ which came out in January was officially approved by Saint Laurent’s long-time business partner and lover Pierre Bergé, granting them access to all the YSL archives. On the other hand, the trailer of the other Saint Laurent movie, of which Bergé has denied to grant his support, has just hit the web.
Both the movies focus on the troubled and glamorous life of Saint Laurent. While the first movie was shot at their headquarters at Avenue Marceau in Paris and has some of the original pieces from his earlier collections (including his most renowned Mondrian dresses), ‘Saint Laurent’ the “unofficial” biopic features a whole lot of cigarettes, sex and snakes!
What’s exciting about the new Saint Laurent movie is that it looks much darker and has a brilliant star cast which includes Gaspard Ulliel (of Hannibal Rising) as the Parisian designer and Léa Seydoux (of Blue is the Warmest Colour) as his long-time muse Loulou de la Falais. The movie is slated to be released this September and is entirely in French.
