WhatsApp might be introducing a new feature to let users shop for goods and services right from the chat window. The feature is currently under development.

According to Mashable, WhatsApp business account users will be able to provide product catalogues directly to customers from within the chat window. The shopping button will be added on the app, which will be available in India in coming months. The button will let users add items to a cart, and check out from within the WhatsApp chat. The latest feature is aimed towards helping small businesses that have been hit hard by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Announcing the feature, WhatsApp said in a statement: “We will expand ways for people to check out available products and make purchases right from a chat. We also want to make it easier for businesses to integrate these features into their existing commerce and customer solutions. This will help many small businesses who have been most impacted in this time.”

Moreover, the user will now choose the products from the catalog sent by the seller and add them to the shopping cart. In fact, the customers can purchase them without leaving the app. Besides, this entire system is expected to be powered by Facebook Pay, which means it will be the default mode of payments.

For those who don’t know, Facebook recently launched Facebook Shops earlier this year. The company has been making sever attempts to bring shopping features available to all its apps – Instagram and Facebook. Now, WhatsApp is the next one to be included in the list.

In other news, the platform recently introduced Dark Mode feature for its users.
