Charges and Possible Punishment

The case is related to “the creation of pornographic films and publishing them through some apps.” Kundra is guilty of making, “obscene and indecent advertisements and displays.” Charges under the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act have been implied. Charges under IT Act are also applicable. Five to seven years in jail is possibly the punishment that Kundra can face.

Case Filed In February

The case was registered on February 4. Four women had complained that they were forced to shoot porn after being promised an acting job in web series. Umesh Kamat, a person who was caught uploading such videos through a UK firm named Kenrin Production House on their app called HotShots, led to more evidence in the scandal.

Kundra’s Alleged Connection To The Firm

The company operating the whole pornographic business was apparently set up by Kundra and his relative Pradeep Bakshi. The firm was registered in the UK to evade Indian cyber laws. A total of 10 people have been nabbed by the police in this case.

Group Chats On WhatsApp

Several Whatsapp chats have also indicated the link between Kundra and his relative/UK-based businessman Bakshi. The chats established the fact that Kundra was indeed involved in the video creating and publishing racket. His link to Kamat also became concrete via these chats.

Witnesses

Model/actress Sagarika Shona Suman also came out to talk about how she was asked to shoot for such videos. She has alleged that she was offered a web series produced by Kundra in August 2020. During one of the interactions, the actress was asked to give a nude audition by Kundra and his team. Poonam Pandey, who had filed a police complaint against Kundra and his associates on charges of fraud and theft in 2019, also reacted to the news. She said, “my heart goes out to Shilpa and Shetty & her kids,” and withdrew from using “this opportunity to highlight my trauma.”
