It’s no news that Leo has been an active environmentalist for years now. From founding the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation in 1998 for environmental awareness to meeting the Pope to discuss global warming issues, he’s one of the very few celebrities speaking on climate change. In Leo’s Oscar-worthy words, ‘Climate change is real, it is happening right now.’
The actor took to Twitter to announce earlier this week to be the newest proud investor in the eco-friendly footwear brand, Allbirds.
Allbirds started by Tim Brown and Joey Zwillinger, work with natural materials for their shoes. One recycled plastic bottle equals one pair of Allbirds laces. Not just that, the brand uses recycled cardboard and castor bean oil as their ingredients too. The simplicity of it all is reflected in the sneaker design. They don’t scream loud labels or unnecessary details. There are shoes for men, women, and kids alike.
We are well aware of DiCaprio’s work towards saving the planet but his interest in the fashion industry is a first. However, it’s not tough to understand why. The clean aesthetics and sustainability quotient is what drew him to the brand, much like his personal style too. It’s exciting to see brands like Allbirds making mother nature as their muse.
