The author of multiple critically acclaimed bestsellers like The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, Khaled Hosseini took to his Instagram to share a personal post about his daughter Haris. Posting two pictures with her, he announced to the world that she had identified herself as a transgender woman. He penned a heartwarming note for her and poured his heart out. He wrote how he was first-hand witness to his daughter’s transition and the trying times she has had to go through, in an emotional and heartwarming note.

Hosseini supported her decision as a proud father. He added how his daughter had never feared to share and talk about her true self. And in the process, she had taught his family a lot about truth and bravery. Living life authentically is what his family knows and he credited her for that. He reassured her that he would always be by her side even though he was aware of the prejudices and discrimination towards queer people. 

People started sending messages of support and love as soon as the post went up. People wrote messages applauding the writer, while others highlighted how this was the kind of people we needed in the world. Some even wrote that this was one of the most beautiful things that he had written.

Hosseini has always been supportive of his kids and frequently posts about them on social media, right from them graduating to them learning new skills.
