They make more money than they can possibly need, so these men donate a chunk of it to causes close to their hearts

To mark the birth of their daughter Max, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and wife Priscilla Chan are giving away a whopping 99% of their shares in the company – amounting to $45 bn at Facebook’s current value.

 

The money will all go to causes the couple supports, through their Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, as they want the world to be a better place for their newborn to grow up in.

 

The shares will be donated over the course of the couple’s lives, and the announcement is the latest on a list of tycoons and top business heads globally putting their money to better use.

 

In India too, plenty have invested their millions in education, healthcare and social and rural development. We rake up figures from the Hurun India Philanthropy List 2014 to tell you exactly who contributed how much to what cause.
