According to a report in the Press Trust of India, India added more than three billionaires per month in 2019 despite the fear of the coronavirus and a slacking economy.
The list of 138 Indian billionaires (with 34 newbies) was led by Mukesh Ambani of Reliance Industries with USD 67 billion in net worth, minting Rs 7 crore every hour, PTI reports.
The ninth edition of the Hurun Global Rich List 2020 states that the world has added 480 billionaires in 2019 – China added over three billionaires in a week. With 799 billionaires, China occupies the top spot in the world with the US coming second with 626 billionaires. The report further added that there are more chances of there being pharma billionaires in India and China due to the fight against the deadly coronavirus.
Mumbai is the ninth-richest city in the world with 50 billionaires living in the maximum city with New Delhi coming in at number 30 and Bengaluru and Ahmedabad coming in at number 17 and 12 respectively.
Ambani is the ninth richest person in the world with USD 67 billion – this list is topped by Jeff Bezos of Amazon with USD 140 billion. In India, Ambani is followed by the SP Hinduja family (USD 27 billion), Gautam Adani (a little over USD 17 billion), Shiv Nadar & family (close to USD 17 billion), and Lakshmi Mittal with over USD 15 billion in net worth.
