Even as the novel coronavirus continues to affect millions of people worldwide and has decimated an already staggering economy, lives have come to a standstill due to global lockdowns which are set in place to battle COVID-19.

Whether its a birthday or a funeral, practically every aspect of our life has been virtualised – and that holds true for graduations.

However, here’s a consolation, if you can call it that – Facebook is holding a virtual graduation ceremony with media heavyweight Oprah Winfrey delivering the commencement address. Awkwafina, Jennifer Garner, Lil Nas X and Simone Biles will all be giving a speech while Miley Cyrus is set to perform.

According to media reports, the event will kick off at 1AM PT/2PM ET on May 15 and will be accessible via the Facebook Watch app. Four days prior to this, Instagram will be showing videos daily “that spotlights iconic senior experiences — from ‘most likely’ votes to portrait showcases to senior skip day.”

Facebook is not the only one hosting a virtual graduation ceremony, however. On May 15, Her Campus will host an event which will feature Eva Longoria, Radhika Jones, Margaret Cho, Brooke Baldwin, Liam Payne, Jesse McCartney, Andrew Yang and Tamron Hall.
