Elon Musk’s SpaceX is working with the US military to create a high-end rocket that can deliver 80 metric tons of cargo anywhere in the world in 60 minutes.
The proposed rocket will give the US an incredible offensive advantage in their attacks, allowing military generals to order high-grade weapons and missiles from the US base to a warzone like Afghanistan in dire times.
The US has a fleet of 233 planes, with the C-17 currently shouldering the responsibility of delivering cargo and weapons. But it’s a plane, not a rocket, and hence, it takes almost 15 hours for the C-17 to complete its journey from Cape Canaveral, Florida, to the US-run Bagram airfield in Afghanistan.
US Transportation Command’s General Stephen Lyons announced the venture through a virtual conference. He said, “Think about the speed associated with that!”
“I can tell you SpaceX is moving very, very rapidly in this area. I’m really excited about the team that’s working with SpaceX.”
It’s still unclear if this will be an America-exclusive or if Musk plans to sell the rocket to other countries as well.
