CD Project Red Confirms The Witcher Development With Unreal Engine 5
‘The Witcher’ Remake Is In Development With Unreal Engine 5

Except it to arrive in a couple of years.

Remakes are the flavor of the season, folks! After Last of Us and Silent Hill, CD Project Red has announced that it’ll be remaking the first Witcher game in Unreal Engine 5. We’ve known for a while that the developer had several projects in the lineup, including the code name Canis Majoris, which now as it turns out is the first title in the series.

However, CD Project Red won’t be undertaking the remastering. It is reported that another studio by the name of Fool’s Theory will be helping with the project. Another noteworthy detail here is that Fool’s Theory will be rebuilding the remake from the ground up.

The studio has kept a good track record so far, with the team consisting of the same developers who have worked on The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Could this mean we can see another Demon’s Souls-esque offering? We’re certainly keeping our fingers crossed for that one.

This makes a lot of sense of CD Project Red considering the amount of bad press it received last year with Cyberpunk 2077’s release. Also considering the first Witcher game is more than a decade old at this point, many new players would want to experience it with modern graphics. But hold your horses for the time being. While the remake has been developing for a while now, it is unlikely that we’ll see the finished project until a few years down the line. Apart from this, Project Red is also working on updating the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for current consoles, including support for 60FPS.
