Another week, another round of major tech reveals. Nothing is back with the Phone (3a) series, refining its signature transparent aesthetic with upgraded specs. Apple isn’t slowing down either, rolling out the MacBook Air M4 with faster AI capabilities, soon. Meanwhile, at Mobile World Congress (MCW), Xiaomi is shaking up mobile photography with its modular camera system, and Tecno is pushing the limits of phone design with the world’s thinnest device.
Here’s what’s new in tech this week.
Nothing’s Latest Drop: The Phone (3a) Series
Carl Pei’s Nothing is back with two new devices—the Phone (3a), which starts at ₹22,999, and (3a) Pro, which starts at ₹27,999, pushing its signature transparent aesthetic further into the mainstream. Both come with a 6.77-inch FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED display, peak brightness hitting 3000 nits, and a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 under the hood. There’s up to 12GB of RAM, Android 15 with Nothing OS 3.1, and a promise of three major Android updates and six years of security patches.
The Glyph lights are back, now with 26 addressable LED zones, and a glass back replaces last year’s plastic. Nothing also finally gave us a telephoto camera, and the Pro version throws in a 50MP front camera. Battery? 5000mAh with 50W fast charging (50 per cent in 19 minutes), though wireless charging is still a no-go.
Apple’s Next Move: MacBook Air M4
Apple’s keeping the updates rolling with the MacBook Air M4, set to replace the M3 version that dropped just last year. Expect better AI capabilities, improved battery life, and faster everything. The M4 chip is coming to both the 13-inch and 15-inch models, which means Apple is doubling down on its rapid refresh cycle.
Adobe Photoshop Goes Mobile
Adobe finally did it—Photoshop for iPhone is here. Core tools like layers, selections, and masks made the cut, along with AI-driven features like Generative Fill and Generative Expand. A $7.99 (₹695 approx) monthly subscription unlocks premium tools and Photoshop on the web, setting it up to compete with Snapseed and Canva for mobile photo-editing.
Xiaomi’s Modular Camera: A Game-Changer for Mobile Photography?
Xiaomi just introduced a modular optical system—basically, a pro-grade camera setup that clips onto your phone. This could be a game-changer for photographers who want DSLR-level shots without losing the convenience of instant edits and social sharing.
Tecno’s Insanely Thin Phone Concept
Tecno is showing off the Spark Slim, a concept phone that’s just 5.75mm thick while still packing a 5200mAh battery. That officially makes it the world’s thinnest regular phone, though Apple and Samsung probably aren’t far behind with their own ultra-thin models.
Lenovo’s Wildest Laptop Concepts Yet
Lenovo isn’t holding back this year. At MWC, they showed off two crazy laptop ideas: ThinkBook Flip – A laptop where the display flips over the lid, so you can use it even when it’s closed. Yoga Solar PC – A laptop with built-in solar panels, meaning you can literally charge it by leaving it in the sun. Wild times.
Samsung’s Display Madness
Samsung’s latest tech flex includes a 27-inch gaming monitor with a 500Hz refresh rate, bezel-less designs, OLED tiles, and some wild flexible display prototypes. If you thought display innovation was slowing down, Samsung is here to prove you wrong.
Xiaomi 15 Ultra: The Sleeper Flagship of the Year?
MWC isn’t the stage for massive flagship phone reveals anymore, but Xiaomi’s 15 Ultra is making a strong case for itself. This phone isn’t just polished—it’s powerhouse material, packing a 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED display (WQHD+, 120Hz), a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, up to 16GB RAM, 512GB/1TB storage, a quad-camera setup with a 50MP (1-inch sensor) main, 50MP periscope, 50MP telephoto, and 50MP ultrawide, plus a 5,300mAh battery with 90W wired and 50W wireless charging, all running on HyperOS (Android 14-based) with AI-powered photography tricks and Leica tuning.
Honor Watch 5 Ultra: Built to Last
Luxury meets endurance in the Honor Watch 5 Ultra, a rugged yet sleek smartwatch aimed at fitness lovers and professionals alike, featuring a 1.5-inch LTPO AMOLED display (466 x 466) with an always-on mode, an octagonal titanium case with a sapphire crystal face, built-in GPS, heart rate monitoring, 100+ sports modes, a diving depth capability of up to 30 metres, and a battery life that stretches up to 15 days (or about 12 in real-world use).
HMD Fusion X1: A “Smartphone for Teens”
Online safety is a growing concern, and HMD’s Fusion X1 is stepping up, blending security with smartphone essentials in a device that sports a 6.56-inch LCD (90Hz), a Unisoc T606 processor, 4GB RAM, 128GB storage (expandable via microSD), a 13MP rear camera and 8MP front camera, a 5,000mAh battery with 10W charging, and a heavily safety-focused Android 14 UI with parental controls like social media limits, location tracking, emergency SOS, geofencing, School Mode, and an AI-powered harmful content blocker coming this summer—all locked behind a €5/month, (₹850 (approx.) subscription.
