Some ‘Tekken’, a lot of ‘God of War’!

Sony recently wrapped up its State of Play event this year with a barrage of announcements. And no, while there was no news on the new Spider-Game 2, we did get a brand new story trailer of God of War Ragnarök, the official reveal of Tekken 8 with gameplay footage, and more! Let’s take a look.   

 

1) Tekken 8 Officially Revealed  

We’ve known for a while that Tekken will be coming back for its eighth installment. But it was only yesterday did we get to see some cutscenes and gameplay footage, featuring Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima. While no release date has been mentioned, the developer did announce that the game will run on crisp 50 frames per second, and will be available for the PS5.   

 

2) Like A Dragon Ishin! Is Getting A Remake  

The 2010’s Rya Ga Gotoku: Ishin, which set the tone for the now-famous Yakuza games is getting a remake. Now titled Like a Dragon: Ishin! it’ll be made with Unreal Engine 4 and will be available as soon as February 2023, on both PS4 and PS5.   

 

3) Rise Of The Ronin Reveal   

Coming exclusively to PS5 is yet another action RPG set in Japan. Called Rise of the Ronin, the triple-A title will be developed by Sony and Koei Tecmo’s Team Ninja. While details are yet scarce, a PlayStation Blog revealed that you’ll play as a ronin, who is “a warrior bound to no master and free to make choices of its own.” If it sounds a bit too vague for you, you might have to wait till its 2024 release.  

 

4) Hogwarts Legacy Update  

Yet another interesting news to come out of Sony’s camp was that the PlayStation version of Hogwarts Legacy, the new Harry Potter prequel title will get an exclusive quest. It’ll be called The Haunted Hogsmeade Shop, and will be available for one whole year on the Sony console. Speaking of the main game itself, following a delay, Hogwarts Legacy will now be released on February 10th, 2023.  

 

5) PSVR2 Is Getting A Star Wars Title  

Expanding its portfolio beyond a galaxy far, far away, Sony announced two new titles for its coming PSVR2. The first will be called Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge Enhanced Edition, while the second is a fantasy-themed tabletop board game Demeo. Both are scheduled for a release next year.
