Samsung The Frame:
Samsung’s new Frame TV, based on its QLED series of smart TVs, not only looks great from every angle but also delivers on the performance side. It’s equipped with a bright and sharp 4K HDR screen that has great viewing angles, smooth video handling for high resolution videos, better back-lighting in place than before and a
unique universal remote control that’s probably the nicest looking TV controller you’ll find. The frames around the TV can be changed from a range of options, like white, walnut and beige. This Tizen-based smart TV has a few apps up its sleeve, like Bloomberg, SonyLIV, Netflix and Plex, for your media streaming options, and TuneIn for radio stations. Oh, and that one Connect box is all you connect to the TV, which then automatically
detects your DTH connection, Chromecast and gaming console, and makes switching between these a breeze. Price: Rs 2,74,900
Sony X82E:
This is one of Sony’s more VFM options – it comes with a 4K screen supporting HDR colour gamut and running Android TV. The four-way audio system is actually not bad at all for a panel this slim, and it’s good enough for regular show watching or casual movie watching with a few people around. This is a Netflix-approved TV, which means full 4K HDR support for Netflix originals if you’re a subscriber. The OS, Android TV, does come in handy and makes for a simpler set up using an Android phone or viewing your multimedia content on the TV straight from it, with no other equipment or third party app required. In fact, you can also use the TV for making a video call via your Android phone, if that’s your thing.
Price: Rs 87,900 (43-inch) and Rs 98,900 (49-inch)
Samsung UHD KU6470
The best thing about this particular TV, apart from that great ultra HD panel that handles movies so well, is its built-in CAM module card slot (CI 1.3). Get a module card from either Dish TV, Airtel Digital TV or SunDirect, fit it into the TV’s back and you’re good to go – there’s no need for a separate set-top box. The TV also looks very nice and comes with a centrally-placed stand for efficient space usage when placed on top of a flat surface (instead of being wall mounted).
Price: Rs 84,900 (55-inch)
LG 49UJ632T
LG’s webOS-powered smart TVs are some of the better ones out there in terms of simplicity of setting up as well as usability. The 49UJ632T’s bright panel supports ultra HD (3840×2160) resolution and is right up there among any TV in this price segment. Also, the 20 watt speakers are pretty decent, but getting another pair of external speakers should help. The webOS interface rarely stutters and is really pleasing to the eye. Price: Rs 68,990
Panasonic EX600
What many 4K TVs miss out on is decent sound quality, which is obviously important for that great multimedia experience. The Panasonic EX600 handles that job well, thanks to its UA7 audio system – 4 woofers and 4 tweeters at 1,700W power – all in a pretty looking slim frame that does justice to your living room
aesthetics. The TV supports HDR colour gamut and has great contrast ratio for an LCD, plus it can handle high quality videos with quick-moving subjects smoothly. Price: Rs 78,900
Xiaomi LED Smart TV 4
Measuring just about 4.9mm at its thinnest, the Mi TV 4 has a lot going for it, at a surprisingly good price point. The HDR 55-inch 4K (HDR 10 supported) is not the best I have seen, but it’s more than good enough for what you pay; another USP is the Android-based Patchwall OS, that makes navigating between channels and between your media sources smoother – and you only need a single remote to do all of it. Just get a decent set of speakers to pair with it and you’re good to go. You also get over 5,00,000 hours of content from the likes of SonyLIV, Hungama, Voot and more. Price: Rs 39,999
Daiwa L42
This home-grown brand has got a budget-friendly full HD (1920×1080) TV that runs on Android TV. The sound quality is actually not bad from the box speakers, compared to what many TVs manage at this price point. You can use the so-called Web Flirt remote to navigate the TV, launch and switch between TV channels and apps.
