With open-world games being all the rage right now, the creators of Sonic have decided to take a punt at the genre too. Ahead of the Summer Games Fest next week, they’ve released a very very brief teaser of their upcoming title, Sonic Frontiers.
With an emphasis on ‘brief’, the 38-seconds teaser gives us a glimpse into what we’re in for. This includes a whole bunch of puzzle-solving, attacking enemies with flashy moves and wandering around the vast landscape of the seemingly boundary-less world.
However, some fans on Twitter have pointed out the rough shape the game appears to be in, with a Twitter user by the name of @AL_theBoi saying, “Now that we’re officially entering gameplay territory for Frontiers. Can all Sonic fans collectively agree that if at any point, Anything looks even a little bit rough around the edges, we should be vocal and be willing to campaign delay? Let’s not let the Sonic cycle happen.”
Sega initially teased the Sonic Frontiers back in 2019 and then again last year, with an initially planned to release in late 2021. However, due to reasons unknown to us, the Blue Blur will now be returning in 3D form sometime this year.
The game is being developed by Sega’s team in Japan and is being helmed by producer Sachiko Kawamura and director Morio Kishimoto. Once launched, the open-world adventure will be available across all platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
Sonic Frontiers will feature on IGN’s cover of June. Hence, expect a lot of reveals coming your way over the course of next week. As always, the internet obviously had a lot to say about Sonic’s new adventure. Here’s what they have to say:
