Samsung Reveals New Galaxy Fold, Galaxy S10s And Galaxy Smartwatches

Take a look at the highlights of the Samsung Unpacked event

The Unpacked event has been long-anticipated and the wait for new Samsung devices is finally over. Here are the highlights of the event:

Of course, the two main highlights were the release of the new S10 and Samsung’s first foldable phone, something that has been rumored to be released for years now. The leaks were proven to be true when the S10 was revealed to have that hole-punch display and three-camera setup. The S10 will be available in three variants — S10E, S10 and S10 plus.

The S10’s

The S10 plus has that signature beautiful curved 6.4-inch QHD+ AMOLED infinity screen. The S10+ is the only phone among the three to have a pill-shaped cutout instead of the hole-punch display due to the dual-camera in the front (13mp + 8mp). A triple-lens rear camera setup comes in all three S10 models with an in-screen fingerprint scanner. It even has a 4100 mAh battery, the biggest of them all. But, the craziest part about the device has to be the mammoth sized 12GB RAM and 1TB storage.

The S10 sits comfortably and perfectly in the middle of the S10 plus and S10E. It sports a 6.1-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED curved screen, to its triple-lens rear camera, made up of a 16MP f/2.2 ultra-wide lens, a 12MP f/2.4 telephoto lens and a 12MP lens that can switch between f/1.5 and f/2.4 apertures. The punch-hole display hides the 10mp front camera. 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage is available with a 3,400mAh battery that keeps it all going.

If the price tag of these devices is somewhat scary for your pocket, then maybe the S10E is what you should be looking at. Said to be the equivalent of the Apple XR, the S10E has a 5.8-inch Full HD+ AMOLED screen that’s flat rather than curved, which was the biggest compromise the company had to make to lower the price. There are two rather than three cameras on the back though, namely a 16MP f/2.2 ultra-wide one and a 12MP variable aperture one – so it misses out on the 12MP telephoto lens.

The Galaxy Fold

The Galaxy Fold is Samsung’s first foldable smartphone. it has a 4.6-inch screen when folded and converts to a 7.3-inch display when opened up. The Galaxy Fold allows for three-app multitasking and app continuity allows you to instantly pick up where you left off when switching between screens. The 12GB RAM, 512GB of storage and the 4,380mAh battery should be able to handle the responsibilities of both a phone and tablet. It also comes with six cameras – three on the back, two on the inside and one on the front.

Galaxy Active

Apart from the phones, Samsung also revealed two new wearables. The first one being the Galaxy Watch Active, which is a refined version of the Galaxy Wear Sport. It has a more sleeker design, with the rotating bezel being removed and the making the watch thinner and lighter. Apart from the usual heart rate monitor, the new Galaxy Wear Active can also reportedly measure blood pressure. It is water resistant up to 50 meters. It runs on Samsung’s Tizen OS which is seen on all their smartwatches, but with a bit of a makeover, as it includes Samsung’s new One UI, which hasn’t been used on any of their smartwatch before.

Galaxy Buds

Samsung also released the Galaxy Buds, their answer to Apple’s AirPods, but cheaper, better-looking and more practical. They come with a case which can charge them (and which itself can be charged wirelessly or without wires). The Buds work with Samsung’s Bixby assistant and can supposedly last for 6 hours of music or 5 hours of calls.
