Samsung Galaxy A73 5G Review: Features, Design, Camera, And More
Review: Samsung Galaxy A73 5G Smartphone

The A73 5G gets the option of a 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB variant, and is available in three colours

If you’re finding it tough to keep up with Samsung’s steady flow of new smartphone launches, you are not alone. In January it was the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G, a few weeks ago it was the A53 5G, and now another A Series device that sits right in between the other devices. Samsung understands more than any other brand about the micro niches in the smartphone segment, and the need to plug each niche with devices that please fickle consumers. So, who is the Samsung Galaxy A73 5G for?

That familiar A Series chic

In many ways, the A73 5G is the perfect advert for the Samsung Galaxy A Series design philosophy. It may lack some of the bling of some of its Chinese rivals but it will certainly appeal to those who are not attention seekers. We like the clean lines, the premium vibe and the choice of subtle, almost bland pastel shades. We checked out the Awesome Mint (Samsung says the ‘A’ is for Awesome) variant that is the standout colour option. At 181 gm, Samsung keeps this smartphone quite light despite that large display that’s is our favourite feature of this device.

Punchy Colours

If there’s one area where the A73 has an edge over the competition, it’s the display. This one features an immersive 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus display (1080×2400 pixels / 393 PPI/ 800 nits peak brightness) with a 120Hz refresh rate. In fact, this display also goes one up on the pricier S21 FE in terms of screen real estate. Colours are gorgeous, with excellent visibility even under direct sunlight. Samsung’s latest iteration of its own custom One UI plays out quite well on this display. Samsung’s UI experience has improved by leaps and bounds and is currently our favourite spin on Android.

Flagship class

Aside from the display, it’s the quad rear cam that pushes the Samsung Galaxy A73 5G into the flagship zone. A 108MP (f/1.8) primary lens with OIS does most of the heavy lifting. The camera is not afraid of the dark, and videos are quite impressive too. However, we would have liked to see a zoom lens instead of the 5MP depth sensor in the rear cam. A 5MP Macro lens and a 12MP ultra-wide lens complete the cam set up.

What Do We Think?

The Samsung Galaxy A73 5G scores when it comes to display, design and camera. The brand’s choice of chipset – the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G– might puzzle some heavy-duty users but the smartphone handled all the stuff we threw at it without stuttering including intensive games like Asphalt 9. We tested the top-end 8GB/256GB version; there’s also a 8GB/128GB variant. The device notched up a respectable score of 2859 in our Geekbench benchmark test (multi-core). There are faster smartphones at this price point but the A73 is not just about fulfilling your need for speed. This is an all-round device that should please buyers looking for a flagship-class experience at a more affordable price point.

The Samsung Galaxy A73 5G is available as a 8GB/128GB variant at Rs 41,999 and a 8GB/256GB variant at Rs 44,999. Three colour options are on offer: Awesome White, Awesome Grey and  Awesome Mint
