Slinky yet Power packed.

One of the welcome trends we’ve seen since 2020 is the slight slimming down of flagships. Not long ago, smartphone displays were getting bigger, and the battery was getting more formidable. The result – devices that often feel too clunky, almost uncomfortable to clasp for long periods of time. OPPO’s flagship Reno series typifies the new slim trend. The brand’s latest flagship – the Reno 6 Pro 5G is loaded with top-of-the-line features but it’s biggest draw could be the form factor.

The Reno 6 Pro is a showstopper. Part of that appeal stems from OPPO’s proprietary Reno Glow effect. This unique anti-glare process lends this device a unique sheen that’s further accentuated by a Diamond Spectrum Process. It plays out particularly well in the Aurora colour option that we checked out. As we head back to nightspots and restaurants with our buddies, this is a device that is bound to get you attention with its ever-changing colour that looks different from different angles. You can also opt for the more sedate Stellar Black if you like to keep things low key.

Aside from the luminescence, it’s the slim form that caught our attention. It’s just 7.6 mm thin and weighs under 180 gm despite a robust 4500 mAh battery under the hood. Battery life is a win, you won’t reach out for the charger in a hurry. We sailed through an entire day with extensive gaming, camera usage and about 3 hours of videos. OPPO bundles its trademark 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 charger that takes the battery level from 0 to 100% in 31 minutes flat.

90Hz refresh rate displays are par for the course, it should come as no surprise that the 6.55-inch display (1080 x 2400 pixels) on the Reno 6 Pro is replete with a 90Hz refresh rate. With a 92.1% screen: body ratio, OPPO keeps this almost bezel-less and immersive. Colours are vibrant, gaming is ultra-smooth too. The 360-degree Light-Sensing innovation with two ambient light sensors improves the auto brightness settings. This one’s a handy, practical touch.

The Reno 5 Pro 5G that launched earlier this year, impressed us with its video capabilities. The 6 Pro takes it to the next level. Our favourite feature is the Bokeh Flare Portrait video option. It delivers real-time video processing while capturing portrait videos. We tried it a few times even in lowlight and the subjects appear bright. There are also cool tools like AI Color Portrait videos. The quad rear cam is headlined by a 64MP lens and brings together an 8MP ultra-wide lens, a 2MP Macro cam and a 2MP mono lens. A 32MP selfie cam completes the camera set up.

OPPO has opted to stick with the MediaTek Dimensity processor (just like its predecessor). The Reno 6 Pro is propelled by a 5G ready MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset that gets a boost from a generous 12GB of RAM and 256GB of Internal memory. It’s not the fastest processor at this price point but delivers an impressive performance validated by our Geekbench score (2565 / multi-core). OPPO’s Color OS has certainly upped its game over the last year. We just wish it came with less bloatware and pre-installed apps.

The Reno 6 Pro 5G scores with its design aesthetic and form factor. It looks every inch premium and has the hardware to back it up. And then there’s the camera with a bag of cool new tricks that should keep you engaged and offer new user experiences.

The OPPO Reno 6 Pro costs Rs 39,990 and is available in Aurora and Stellar Black. OPPO is also offering cashback offers of up to Rs 4,000 with select banks for a limited period.
