Budget is not always a bad thing. OnePlus’ new 4K UHD TV is a case in point. The TV50 Y1S Pro (yes, that’s a lot to type!) is a follow up to the brand’s 43-inch TV that debuted earlier this year. The personal entertainment space is seeing a shake-up in the post-pandemic world. Your TV is no longer your default screen. You could catch one episode of Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area on your way back from work on your smartphone or tab and then watch the next on your home projector in your den before switching to your TV in the bedroom.
There are also a growing number of full HD Monitors that are also part of this mix. All this means that a TV ought to be smarter than its predecessors to be relevant. This is what makes this OnePlus 50-incher an interesting proposition. It all starts with the form factor.
Looks good in your den
We’ve come to expect elegant design from OnePlus products, the TV 50 Y1S Pro stays true to that. Colours are brilliant on the 4K UHD display. OnePlus claims you can witness over a billion colours in very frame, thanks to the 10-bit colour depth feature. It also offers Ultra HD display along with HDR10+, HDR10, as well as HLG format support for a superior viewing experience. We checked out our usual bunch of 4K videos on YouTube to validate the colour performance and this TV punches way beyond its sticker price. I also caught up on some F1 action and the ongoing England vs South Africa cricket series and the TV didn’t disappoint. OnePlus plays up the MEMC technology feature that enhances fast-moving scenes for smoother, realistic action. It’s not just the picture quality, the dual speakers (with a total output of 24W) also keep up.
Get smarter
TVs have evolved to become smart hubs, allowing us to flit from one screen to the next. Setup is a breeze, just like most Android TVs – this one’s powered by the Android TV 10.0 platform and allows you to lean on Google Assistant for easy controls. We’re yet to check out another cool feature – OnePlus TVs’ Game Mode that allows you to connect your gaming console to the OnePlus TV via HDMI to activate the exclusive ALLM feature for an immersive gaming experience with decreased latency.
The ecosystem edge
At a time when it’s tough to differentiate one TV from another, a seamless ecosystem and easy inter-operability between multiple devices becomes a key purchase driver for most consumers. It’s easy to recommend this TV if you’re already invested into the OnePlus ecosystem. I got an instant prompt when I pulled out my OnePlus Buds Pro earbuds. It’s the same if you have a OnePlus smartwatch, you can turn it on and off in a single click. The other cool touch is the Smart Sleep Control feature, that detects if you’ve fallen asleep and automatically switches the TV off. Handy, if you’re like me and drop off in front of your TV more than occasionally.
The OnePlus TV 50 Y1S Pro is a great addition to OnePlus’ Y series and delivers bang for your buck. It’s a great option if you’re a OnePlus smartphone user with deep integration, great visuals for the price and all the smarts you expect from TVs in 2022.
The OnePlus TV 50 Y1S Pro costs Rs 32,999. There’s an instant cashback of Rs 3,000 for Axis Bank customers.
