Handheld Gaming Devices That Can Run Triple-A Titles With Ease (Almost)

While Sony seems not to be in the mood to revive the iconic PSP, these five devices should do the trick for now.

Love them or hate them, gamers enjoy spending hours in front of a screen in silence. While this may become difficult when you’re on the go, tech companies have been investing in handheld devices that claim to do the trick while being travel-friendly. Today, we’ve taken a look at five such devices.

Taking the competition to the Nintendo Switch and the Steam Deck, Asus has launched its handheld gaming device called the ROG Ally. It features a 7-inch 1080p 120Hz VRR display and packs 6GB LPDDR5 memory with 512GB of storage (expandable). Running things in the background is the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor with an 8-core Zen4 CPU and 12CU Radeon RDNA 3 GPU.

2. Nintendo Switch

Perhaps the most well-known device in its category, the Nintendo Switch offers something you won’t find on the Steam Deck or any other handheld device—access to the Nintendo catalogue, consisting of the latest Zelda game. Running on custom Horizon software, the Switch gets an OLED display, an adjustable stand, and a base 64GB of internal storage.

3. Steam Deck

Perhaps the best thing you can buy right now while waiting for the Sony PSP is Valve’s Steam Deck. The 7-inch handheld device has made tall claims of running triple-A titles on its modest custom AMD processor. Additionally, the device also offers access to Steam’s endless and ever-expanding library of games.

4. Logitech G Cloud

Moving into the world of cloud gaming, we have the Logitech G Cloud, which features dual analogue sticks, bumpers, a D-pad, and triggers, all packaged into a 7-inch body. Under the hood, it packs a Snapdragon 720G, which is said to be “designed for efficiency over power”. As we mentioned earlier, the device is built specifically for Xbox Cloud Gaming service, which may cost extra.

5. OneXplayer

If you want to keep your titles on board, the OneXplayer makes more sense. This handheld gaming PC gets a big 8.4-inch display with a 2K resolution, along with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Featuring an analogue trigger button and a touch-click bumper, the device claims to run AAA games as smoothly as a mid-ranged gaming PC.
