Ahead of the 2020 Ubisoft Forward event, an ill-timed leak revealed actor Giancarlo Esposito to be the latest villain in the Far Cry franchise.
A Far Cry game’s biggest emphasis is undoubtedly on its antagonist, so naturally, this reveal was a big deal for fans of the franchise. Esposito’s reveal as the new Far Cry villain intrigued players around the globe, with some even claiming that he has the potential to be another great addition to the game. Vaas, from Far Cry 3, currently holds the crown for everyone’s favourite villain.
Esposito is best known for his role as Gus Fring in the popular TV series Breaking Bad. Interestingly, the Far Cry series has another connection with the Breaking Bad universe. Michael Mando, who plays Nacho Varga in Better Call Saul, is the actor who played the role of Vaas.
In an interview with Variety, Esposito shared more information on his character as Antón Castillo. “He’s in the middle of, unfortunately, a revolution. He’s trying to empower the people to understand that they need strong leadership now,” he said.
He added, “Antón, although being born with a silver spoon in his mouth, was unable to rule until the revolutionaries that ousted his father were put away. We meet him at a time where he’s trying to empower his son to take up his mantle and really embrace ideas that would allow him to see that soon he will probably be the next leader in this country.”
Far Cry 6 releases on February 18, 2021, with pre-orders now open.
