It’s happening! Google has officially confirmed the existence of its first foldable device, the Pixel Fold, set to be introduced at next week’s Google I/O 2023 event on May 10. And while the company only dropped a brief teaser of the phone, there are still a few exciting things we can decipher.
For starters, the Pixel Fold seems to have gone for the book-style fold similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Fold, instead of opting for a clamshell design seen on the Z Flip and the Motorola Razr. Additionally, the Fold also appears to have a full-size screen on the front, which collapses into a bigger edge-to-edge display on the inside.
Yet another interesting tidbit here is the camera setup seems to be carried over from other Pixel devices. However, the bump appears to be less prominent here. While Google is yet to reveal the specs, reports suggest that the phone’s screen measures around 5.8-inch, which folds out into a 7.6-inch display. Other highlights here are said to be a Google Tensor G2 processor and what the company claims to be “the most durable hinge on a foldable”.
Of course, all of this is expected to cost a pretty penny. As per reports, Google might price the Pixel Fold around $1,799 internationally. On our shores, that might translate into an asking price of around Rs 1.55 lakh, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 4.
