FIFA 21 is bringing forth a lot of changes to the FIFA franchise. Gameplay, of course, undergoes upgrades and certain unpopular or unhelpful moves are discarded to make room for improvements. But probably for the first time in FIFA history, Electronic Arts has decided to get rid of certain celebration animations to reduce “toxic behaviours” on the virtual field.

FIFA 21 will not include two specific celebrations — the A-OK celebration and the “Shush” celebration — and future FIFA games can also face the risk of celebration removals if they too encouraged toxicity.

“We were told by the community that there are toxic behaviours in the game and we wanted to make sure we removed them,” said EA. “So we removed some of the celebrations that people thought were not the best idea to have in the game. The flow is shorter, which is to try to keep you playing most of the time instead of just waiting. All together the intention there is just to keep you playing instead of doing other things that may not be necessary in the game.”

FIFA 21 is set to release on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on October 9, 2020, with separate PS5 and Xbox Series X releases set to happen in the end of the year along with the release of those consoles.
