Rejoice fellow Tarnish, From Software’s Elden Ring has bagged the ‘Game of the Year’ title at last night’s Game Awards. However, while the developer team went on the stage to collect the award in the dying minutes, a stage crasher disguising himself as a member of the team joined them for the acceptance speech.
In the video, which has since gone viral, we can see Elden Ring’s director Hidetaka Miyazaki giving his acceptance speech, while the intruder hung around in the background. As soon as Miyazaki was done, he pushed himself forward to the mic himself and said: “Hey, my turn. You know, real quick, I want to thank everybody and say I think I want to nominate [sic] this award to my reformed orthodox rabbi, Bill Clinton. Thank you, everybody.”
As expected, the producers of the show quickly noticed the confusion on the faces of the FromSoft team and deployed security. The broadcast camera too was pulled super far out, to seemingly not show the gentleman being escorted away. Post the show, host Geoff Keighley tweeted, “the individual who interrupted our Game of the Year moment has been arrested.”
As far as how did the intruder manage to pull this off, In the video, we can see that he joined Miyazaki’s entourage, during their walk on the stage. After the incident, reports have emerged suggesting that the stunt was premeditated, with one Twitter user posting Discord chat logs, which shows a server reacting to the prank, where one user wrote, “He’s gonna shout out his rabbi when they’re done.”
Miyazaki, who appeared to be quite confused by all of this confirmed that more Elden Ring content is on its way, saying “We still have several things we want to do, so getting this GOTY award really encourages us.”
