The name Elden Ring has been echoing throughout the gaming communities for weeks now. The highly-anticipated FromSoftware release has seemingly done the impossible of scoring near perfect reviews from both, fans and critics. It comes as no surprise then that the game was sold a whopping 12 million copies ever since its release on Feb 25th!
In an official statement from developer FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco, it was confirmed that the open-world action RPG has sold over one million copies in Japan alone.
Speaking on the occasion, CEO/director Hidetaka Miyazaki said, “It’s astonishing to see just how many people have been playing Elden Ring. I’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks on behalf of the entire development team. Elden Ring is based on a mythological story written by George R. R. Martin. We hope players enjoy a high level of freedom when adventuring through its vast world, exploring its many secrets and facing up to its many threats. Thank you for your continued support.”
Elden Ring is also FromSoftware’s fastest-selling title, with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, its last release, selling two million copies in 10 days. And the highly-raved-about Bloodborne, which was exclusively released on PS4 back in 2015, sold over 1 million copies within two weeks.
A comparison should also be made to the developer’s bestselling title, Dark Souls 3, which took four years to reach the 10 million mark.
