In 2007, while introducing the iPhone at the Macworld convention in San Francisco, Steve Jobs famously expressed his disdain for the stylus. “Who wants a stylus? You have to get em’, put em’ away. You lose them. Yuck,” he said. Apple has really come a long way since then, and now, Jobs’ company ironically sells one of those. Pencils for iPads have become pretty common. And now, Apple may ship its first foldable iPhone with stylus support, as per a report by communications and digital media organization Omdia. The firm predicts that the Cupertino-based tech giant may launch the 7.3-7.6 inch foldable OLED smartphone by 2023 and add an activity pen (a stylus) with it.

The foldable iPhone is expected to make its way to the market by 2023, and given the aforementioned screen sizes, it can be safely assumed that there won’t be a clamshell design option and the foldable iPhone may be similar to the design approach taken for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series.

There is no official word from Apple about a foldable iPhone, but the smartphone has been reported on on several occasions in the recent past. According to a Bloomberg report last month, Apple has even developed a prototype display for the foldable iPhone. The report last month had said that Apple has internally discussed multiple foldable screen sizes, including one that unfolds to a similar size as the 6.7-inch display on the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Samsung’s first attempts at the foldable smartphone design (the Galaxy Fold) had reportedly met with some hardware issues, with the screens of the earlier models cracking. Something like this from Apple is unthinkable and it is said that the company plans to incorporate a chemically treated Ceramic Shield glass that can withstand the pressure while folding and unfolding the device.
