Real Disturbing Stories From The Sets Of Horror Movies

Not for the faint of heart

If you’ve ever read The Secret, The Alchemist (c’mon, everybody’s read this) or anything remotely related to new-age spiritual ways of living, you’ll have come across the idea that everything is energy – good, bad, the grotesque are just our views on it. Anyway, that’s not what we’re discussing today. The Rajkummar Rao-Shraddha Kapoor starrer Stree is all set to hit the screens tomorrow and this is what Rao said in an interview to The Indian Express:

“We shot in many real haunted places. Especially in Bhopal, there is this place called Taj Mahal Fort. Locals told us that it is quite haunted and known to have some negative energies. They had told us to be aware. We were shooting in the night. Our director (Amar Kaushik) is a method director. He said if this is haunted, we will shoot here. He wanted everything to be real. We were given notes that had instructions like do not wear perfumes, girls should not keep their hair open, do not go out all alone etc. We were shooting at 2:30 or 3 in the night once. One of our light boys was sitting 20-30 feet high and suddenly he fell from there. The moment he fell, he started screaming that someone pushed him. He was hurt and hospitalised for three-four days.”

Whew. This is not the first horror story to emerge from the sets of a horror film. Read on – keep the lights on.

The Conjuring

According to Screen Rant, when the real Perron family turned up on the set, a gust of wind encircled them. The hotel where the crew were staying caught fire under mysterious circumstances, Vera Farmiga and Joey King complained about claw marks and unexplained bruising on their body respectively and director James Wan said that his dog seemed perturbed by an unseen force.

Rosemary’s Baby

The 13th Floor has some horrific things to narrate about the film. Krzysztof Komeda, the composer, apparently died of a blood clot – the same way that Hutch (a character in the film) dies. Again, director Roman Polanski’s wife Sharon Tate was one of four people murdered by a group in a ritual conducted by Charles Manson. John Lennon was also shot and killed in the same apartment building which is featured in the film.

Annabelle

“The first was when we were prepping. We went into the apartment where we were shooting, and in the transient window about the living room window. It was a full moon, and there were three fingers drawn through the dust along the window, and our demon has three fingers and three talons. [The markings] were being backlit by the moon. I have a picture! It was sick,” said director John R Leonetti to The Hollywood Reporter, speaking about the paranormal incidents that took place on the sets. Again, in a separate incident, a light fixture fell on the actor who was playing the role of the janitor, reports Screen Rant.
