The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) today announced an 18-member squad for the upcoming One-day International (ODI) series against England. According to NDTV, India could have three potential debutants in the series with Suryakumar Yadav, Prasidh Krishna and Krunal Pandya earning a call-up to the Indian ODI side. India will take on the visiting English team in a three-match ODI series, beginning March 23 with all the matches set to be played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

India had won the Test series comfortably despite losing the opening Test in Chennai. The five-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series is currently level at 2-2 after India beat England by eight runs in the fourth T20I on Thursday.

Suryakumar Yadav grabbed the headlines for his scintillating half-century in only his second T20I outing. The right-hander’s 31-ball 57 was crucial to India posting a winning total of 185 for eight.

The last time India played ODIs, in Australia late last year, the squad had Mayank Agarwal, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Manish Pandey, Navdeep Saini and Sanju Samson, all of whom are missing from the line-up this time. Rohit Sharma, who was back in India before linking up with the squad during the Test series in Australia, is back in the frame now, as the designated vice-captain, while Rishabh Pant, Krunal Pandya, Washington Sundar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Siraj have also been drafted in.

Krunal Pandya, who has played 18 T20Is, received a maiden call-up to the India ODI squad. The all-rounder was in fine form for Baroda in the recently-concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy, and he managed to score two unbeaten hundreds and a couple of half-centuries for Baroda.

Krishna, the 25-year-old quick from Karnataka, has had limited exposure in days’ cricket – just nine first-class games since his debut in 2015 – but has been a prominent name in limited-overs formats for a while, having played 48 List A games (81 wickets at an average of 23.07) and 40 T20s (33 wickets at 35.84 and an economy rate of 8.49). A part of the Kolkata Knight Riders set-up since 2018, Krishna has played 24 games for the franchise in the IPL, returning 18 wickets with an economy rate of 9.33.
