Australian batter Steven Smith has sold his luxurious Vaucluse mansion, situated in the Eastern suburb of Sydney, for $12.38 million. Three years ago, Smith, along with his partner Dani Willis, bought this mansion for less than half of the selling price. 

The property went under the hammer on Thursday, under the supervision of the famous auctioneer Damien Cooley. As per Sydney Morning Herald, four parties registered for the sale, which started with a base price of $11.5 million. Cooley initially kept the minimum bid at $250,000. but dropped to $100,000 after the buyers’ objection.

The bidding came to a brief halt when the amount soared up to $12 million. Cooley, however, warned the bidders that he won’t be able to transfer the property rights at this point. From there, the amount increased to $380,000.

 “I think it’s a great result in the current market. It is a beautiful home, beautifully built, and it was a good result to have four registered bidders.”

Smith and Willis personally transformed this property with the help of the architectural firm McKim Design. In the advertisement for the sale, the house was described as a “showpiece of timeless style and impressive dimensions”. The property is set against the backdrop of Sydney Harbour. 

Seven years ago, Smith had bought a $2 million house in Balmain East, and has leased it for $2200 a week. A couple of years ago, it was reported that Smith made $12.1 million from his $100,000 investment in a mattress firm. 

As far as his performance on the field is concerned, the Aussie notched his 28th Test century on Friday, scoring an unbeaten 109 against Sri Lanka in the second Test. Australia will resume Day 2 on 298/5, with Smith and Alex Carey on the crease.
