Novak Djokovic has proved himself and that he has been one of the greatest players ever in Tennis time and time again. He is right up there in the debate between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. He made a name for himself during the last 2000s and marked his territory in the first half of the 2010s decade; since then hasn’t batted an eye. He has won numerous accolades and awards since he started playing. He won the 2021 French Open yesterday by beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in an enthralling game. We look at the record broken by Djokovic after his fantastic victory.

1) Most sets lost on route to the championship
Not the most distinguished record was broken last night, but Djokovic has picked up a knack of losing sets first and making a comeback from there on in. He matched his record of losing the most sets (6) on route to the championship. With his come-from-behind win, Djokovic is the first player to have won a Grand Slam while trailing two sets to love twice since 1946 Wimbledon. He also came back against Lorenzo Musetti (fourth round).
2) Second-most grand slam finals played
Many tennis players dream of playing the grand slam; some dream of playing in the final and winning it. Then, players like Djokovic played in 29 grand slam finals, the second-highest after Roger Federer (30). It is fair to say that he would be looking to match him or even go past him this year itself, with two grand slams for the year remaining.
3) Most Grand Slam wins
Novak Djokovic is third on the list of grand slam championship victories. He has won 19 grand slam titles to date and will be looking to overcome the joint toppers on this list, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, with 20 grand slam titles. Wimbledon and the US open for this year are still left and can determine who tops this list at the end of 2021.
4) Two Career Grand Slams in Men’s Singles
The most significant record he broke was becoming the first player in the 21st century, the first player in the open court era, and the third player in history to win each grand slam minimum of two times. Djokovic joined Rod Laver and Roy Emerson as the only men to win each of the four major tournaments at least twice. This fantastic feat will take a lot of undoing and a lot of effort to topple.
These records prove that Djokovic is still one of the best tennis players on this planet and is still hungry for more titles before and when he retires. He has shown that he has the pedigree and the required skill to stay ahead and be the best in this game.
