While the Indian Cricket team could not make it to the semi-finals of the World Cup 2020, the cricket fanatics were even sadder about the fact that they will see Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, play in the T20 World Cup for the last time. With this, the Indian Cricket team’s coach, Ravi Shastri, will also be retiring from his post, making the world cup an emotional end for all.
Shastri has been a force to reckon with when it came to training the team. He has had the boys always on their toes during his five-year tenure, with the Indian cricket team achieving many feats in all these years. His last speech as their coach was also no less than an encouraging lesson for the team. In a video shared by the official Instagram page of the team, the coach can be seen addressing the players one last time.
Shastri is seen saying, “You guys as a team have over exceeded my expectations with the way you’ve played. Over the last few years, you went across the globe, across formats and beat everyone. This makes you one of the great teams that has played the game. Not only a great Indian cricket team… This will go down as one of the great teams that has played the game over the five-six years across all formats. The results are there to be seen.”
While this riveting speech by Ravi Shastri won everyone’s heart, it was Virat Kohli’s last message that had everyone in tears. Addressing his fans, Kohli wrote on Instagram, “”Together as one we set out to achieve our goal. Unfortunately, we fell short and no one is more disappointed than us as a side. The support from all of you has been fantastic and we are grateful for it all.We will aim to come back stronger and put our best foot forward. Jai Hind.”
Now with the Indian cricket team gearing up for a new era under Rohit Sharma’s leadership in T20I cricket, everyone is hoping to see more of Kohli’s fearless style of batting in the coming years.
