Ravi Kumar Dahiya clinched a silver at the Olympics. He is only the second Indian wrestler to win a silver medal at the Olympic Games after he lost the men’s freestyle 57kg title clash 4-7 to reigning world champion Zavur Uguev.

But the bout currently in question is the one against Kazakh wrestler Nurislam Sanayev. During the semi-final match, Dahiya endured a bite on the bicep from his opponent. After Ravi Dahiya scripted one of the greatest comebacks on the mat, the pictures revealed the deep bite mark on his right bicep.

He made the active choice to not file a complaint or take action in another form. “I did not want controversy. My focus was on the game. The next day, that wrestler came and apologized to me. Friends, because of this I did not complain,” said he to Aaj Tak on sports conclave.

Despite a huge initial deficit, Dahiya was patient and was ultimately able to turn the bout in his favour.

“I do feel good for the silver but I could have done better. I tried my best to win the gold but missed out by a small margin,” said Dahiya on his Olympic win.

“I am happy with the silver medal, but I wanted to win the gold. Our wrestlers have won silver and bronze medals in the past and the only medal left to win was a gold. I wanted to win that. For some time I was sad, but then I told myself that there will be a next time again for me,” Ravi told Times of India.

The wrestler rose to prominence when he qualified for the Tokyo Games with a bronze medal at the 2019 World Championship in Nur Sultan.

Ravi Dahiya began to wrestle at the Hansraj Brahmchari akhada in the Nahri village, later shifting to Chhatrasal Stadium in New Delhi. Mahavir Singh (1980 Moscow) and Amit Kumar Dahiya (2012 London) are two other Olympic wrestlers hailing from his very village.
