Tennis is quite popular in India, with almost everyone knowing the likes of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. We’ve had our share of grand slams too with both Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi winning plenty of them. In the last decade, Sania Mirza has won some grand slams too. Unfortunately, we’ve only been great in doubles tennis and not been able to make a mark in singles tennis. In this post, we’ll look at some Indian players and their rankings.
Leander Paes (Current Doubles Ranking: 63)
One of India’s greatest atheletes, Leander Paes has made India proud on many occasions. Currently though, the former Doubles World No. 1 isn’t going through the best patch of his career and is ranked No. 63 in the world.
Rohan Bopanna (Current Doubles Ranking: 28)
In 2010, Rohan Bopanna had reached the finals of US Open in men’s doubles. Unfortunately, he has not been able to repeat his performance in Grand Slams since then. That said, the 36-year-old is still active and is ranked No. 28 in the world.
Sania Mirza (Current Doubles Ranking: 2)
Sania Mirza started her career as a singles player, but switched to playing doubles. She was more successful in it too, winning more than a handful of grand slams. Thanks to her terrific performance in recent times, Mirza is ranked No. 2 in the world.
Yuki Bhambri (Current Singles Ranking: 378)
In 2009, when Yuki Bhambri won the Australian Open Junior Championship, everyone had big hopes from the man. However, his performance since then hasn’t been great and there’s very little he has achieved in singles tennis. Currently, Bhambri is ranked No. 378 in the world.
Saketh Myneni (Current Singles Ranking: 199)
Saketh Myneni may not be seen playing any of the grand slams, but he is India’s best ranked Singles player. Currently, Myneni is ranked No. 199 in the world and has a few ATP Challenger titles in his kitty.
