Reigning world champion PV Sindhu has lost her only chance of making it to the maiden final at the All England Championships, as she was outclassed in straight games by Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong in just 45 minutes in the women’s singles semi-final in Birmingham on Saturday.

According to India Today, PV Sindhu went down 17-21, 9-21 to 6th seed Ponrpawee Chochuwong without a fight as her campaign at the prestigious Super 1000 tournament came to a disappointing end. Notably, this was only Sindhu’s 2nd defeat in 6 meetings to Chochuwong, who is certainly on the rise. The Thai shuttler had reached the semi-final of the World Tour Finals. She will face the winner of the other semi-final between Thailand’s Ratchanok Intatnon and Nozomi Okuhara.

“It was a good start, after my three point lead she then went ahead. I think it was her day, everything she was hitting was on the line, I just couldn’t do anything about it. Overall, I should’ve controlled my unforced errors, maybe things could’ve been different then,” Sindhu told the BWF website, adding that she knew it was going to be a good match.

“I knew it was going to be a good match, she’s not an easy player and she’s doing well. Her strokes are really good and she’s going to be a really good player,” Sindhu added.

The world champion also said that she will have to learn from her mistakes.
