MS Dhoni marked his comeback as the CSK captain with a 13-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad at MCA Stadium in Pune. In response to Chennai’s 202, Hyderabad could only manage 189/6.
This was the third victory of the season for CSK, who need to win the rest of their games to qualify for the play-offs. With Dhoni back at the helm, one shouldn’t be surprised if CSK manages to produce a miraculous comeback.
There was a rapid surge in excitement and the decibel level in the stadium as Dhoni walked out for the toss. The sheer joy of watching ‘Captain Cool’ with a microphone brought back fond memories of the good old days. At the start of the season, when Ravindra Jadeja was appointed as a captain, not many would have envisioned Dhoni donning the captain’s hat, again.
But a string of losses under Jadeja forced Dhoni to return as the captain. The pressing question for CSK fans is for how long will the franchise rely on Dhoni. At the toss, he was asked about the same by Danny Morrison.
In response, Dhoni said that he would be seen in the yellow jersey in the future too. But it remains unclear whether he will continue as a player or support staff.
“Well, I said last time also, you will definitely see me in the yellow jersey. Whether it is this yellow jersey or some other, you will have to wait and watch,” Dhoni replied.
His reply confused fans, with many unable to understand what he meant by “other yellow jersey”.
Dhoni also talked about the possible reasons behind Jadeja’s decline once he assumed the responsibility of captain.
“Once you become captain, it means a lot of demands come in. But it affected his mind as the tasks grew. I think captaincy burdened his prep and performances,” Dhoni said after the game.
