On Monday at Brabourne Stadium, Jos Buttler slammed 103 off just 61 deliveries to guide Rajasthan Royals to an imposing total against Kolkata Knight Riders. Buttler’s knock comprised five sixes and nine fours, and helped Rajasthan set up a target of 218.
He and Devdutt Padikkal got Rajasthan off to a breezy start, adding 97 runs for the opening stand. Padikkal just held the fort from one end, while Buttler did the bulk of the scoring.
Kolkata were bowled out for 210. Shreyas Iyer’s valiant knock kept them in the game but the next set of batters couldn’t step up to the occasion. Yuzvendra Chahal starred with a five-wicket haul, and was also the Player of the Match.
Buttler is currently in fine form, and with 375 runs in six matches, he currently holds the Orange Cap in IPL 2022. Only once in six innings has he scored less than 35 runs this season.
He’s is now the sixth batter to score multiple centuries in one season. His first century came in Rajasthan’s 23-run win over Mumbai Indians. Chris Gayle, Hashim Amla, Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, and Shane Watson are the other five batters to have achieved this feat.
In IPL 2016, Kohli amassed 973 runs with the help of four centuries, which is still a record. Dhawan is the only other Indian batter on the list. Plying his trade for Delhi Capitals, Dhawan notched back-to-back centuries in IPL 2020.
