John Abraham was made the Indian ambassador for FIFA World Cup 2014 and now owns his own Indian Super League (ISL) team. Here, he talks about his favourite teams, players and his predictions for the UEFA Euro 2016 semi-finals and finals.
Which team will win the tournament?
I feel that this year, one of the less favoured teams could walk away with the title. We have already seen the same happening with Leicester City in the Premier League. Germany will be favourites, but I am sure teams like England, France and Spain would like to stake their claim.
Which team are you supporting?
The Netherlands.
Who are your favourite players?
I love watching players like Wayne Rooney (England), Thomas Müller and Mesut Özil (Germany), Eden Hazard (Belgium), Andrés Iniesta (Spain) and Paul Pogba (France). I will be keeping a keen eye on them throughout the tournament.
Which players do you think will make the maximum impact in the tournament?
Given their form for their clubs, I feel that David De Gea (Manchester United), N’Golo Kanté (Leicester City) and Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur) will be impactful for Spain, France and England respectively.
What are your predictions for the semi-finals and finals?
I predict a Germany-Belgium and France-Spain semi-final. I can see Germany and France playing the final, but my predictions are based on the kind of players that these teams possess. A country might decide to do a Leicester and prove me wrong.
