Has Pep Guardiola forgotten to win games? Maybe not, but he has now gone seven matches without a victory, the latest being a 2-0 drubbing against Liverpool at Anfield, where the boisterous crowd teased Guardiola by chanting 'sacked in the morning'. Well, he just signed a new contract that holds him at the club till 2027, and he may go on to form a new empire, but this one seems to be done. With or without Rodri, Manchester City suddenly seems to have lost all its threat and aura. Teams don't face them to settle for a draw, or lose respectfully anymore. They go to hunt them down and lay bare the vulnerabilities of their squad. The fact that Guardiola will rise over what is unarguably the roughest patch of his managerial career is undeniable. Still, it will be interesting to see what measures Guardiola applies, what parts of his machinery he defenestrates and what tools he gets from the talent market to rebuild his empire. We look at the longest winless streak of Guardiola's managerial career.
Manchester City - 7 Games Without A Win
Period: October 30 to present
It all started when they went down against Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup. It wasn't a minor blip but a start of full-fledged demolition, as City would then go to Europe, and throw their 1-0 lead against Sporting CP. They were hammered 4-1 by Ruben Amorim's side. Then comes the Wolves in the Premier League which they failed to tame, conceding two goals in the final 15 minutes. The lacklustre display continued when they went to Anfield, where they lost 2-0 and also lose any hope of winning a Premier League title.
Manchester City - 6 Games Without A Win
Period: 28th September - 29th October 2016
It was Guardiola's first season in the Premier League, and critics came hard and fast at his inability to handle the relentlessness of the league when he just couldn't pull out a victory for a brief stretch. There were too many draws and a couple of crushing defeats, including a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Lionel Messi's Barcelona. Their winless streak ended with a 4-0 triumph over West Bromwich Albion.
Barcelona - 5 Games Without A Win
Period: 14th February - 7th March 2009
There was a stretch of six months during his managerial career at Barcelona, where Guardiola dropped only two points. Came February and they were saved by a brace from Samuel Eto'o against Real Betis. This started a trend for the next five matches, drawing three and also losing to Espanyol at the Camp Nou. Their encounter with Atletico Madrid ended in a 4-3 defeat.
Manchester City - 4 Games Without A Win
Period: 15th March - 8th April 2017
Manchester City took a significant lead of 5-3 at Etihad Stadium in the Champions League clash against Monaco. However, on a trip to France for the second league, they floundered, losing the clash by 3-1 and getting knocked out of Europe. The exit from Europe also translated to a dip in form in the Premier League, where they failed to win the next three games.
Bayern Munich - 4 Games Without A Win
Period: 28th April - 12th May 2015
Pep Guardiola won the league title in his first year in Germany as Bundesliga manager. The second season was not much different, as they cruised to another domestic title with a record difference. However, they suffered a massive 3-0 defeat at home to Barcelona in the Champions League. Since the title was already secured, Guardiola gave chance to young guns in the domestic competition, and he stayed winless for four games.
