Indian Men And Women Sweep The 10m Air Pistol As Jitu Rai Claims Gold

India surges to its eighth medal at the games

Following Manu Bhaker’s victory yesterday in Women’s 10m air pistol, Jitu Rai won the Men’s competition today to give India a sweep in the event. World Championship silver medalist Rai shot 235.1 to finish with a sizeable lead.

 

Compatriot Om Prakash Mitharval won bronze with a total of 214.3, and silver went to Australian Kerry Bell, who delivered 233.5 points. In the Women’s air rifle event today, Indian won silver and bronze as Mehlu Ghosh and Apurvi Chandela claimed places on the podium. Ghosh lost to eventual champion Martina Lindsay of Singapore in a shoot-ff after both were tied at a Commonwealth Wealth Games record score of 247.2.

 

Indian weightlifters also continued their strong performance, as Pardeep Singh won silver in the men’s 105kg kilogram category. He lifted 152kg in the snatch and 200kg in the clean and jerk, managing a total of 352kg, losing out to Sanele Mao Samoa, who totaled 360kg.
