5) Joe Gomez (Liverpool, England)

Joe Gomez has been an excellent centre back not only for Liverpool, but also for his country, England. He, alongside Harry Maguire, was destined to be the centre back, pairing for England in the tournament. But Joe Gomez had suffered an injury, ruling him out for more than nine months. He is still on the injury list, meaning there is no chance that he’ll be able to make it in time for the Euros. He still hasn’t started training, which means it’ll take him a long time to be match fit. But arguably, Gomez has been great whenever he has played for England. He is sharp, and his brilliant heading ability makes him a dangerous acquisition in both the penalty areas

4) Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund, Germany)

Marco Reus has been in the form of his life scoring and assisting goals for fun. He was a crucial part of his club’s cup success a few days back. He has made himself unavailable for the upcoming Euros. He stated that he wants to rest and make a recovery after a taxing season full of games, and barely any rest. This means that Reus will be missing his third marquee tournament after missing the 2014 World Cup Finals and 2016 Euros through injury. Reus in this form would be a significant loss for Germany, but they have adequate back-ups, which is a good thing for them.

3) Van Dijk (Liverpool, Netherlands)

Van Dijk has also made himself unavailable for the upcoming Euros. Since October, he has been out of action, but the good thing was he started training again and has been for over a month now. It was expected that he would be in contention to make the squad but has made himself unavailable, stating that he wants to continue his recovery and wants to make sure he is fully fit for the next season. Without Van Dijk, the Dutch face an uphill task and rely on their back-ups to produce match-winning performances.

2) Zlatan Ibrahimovic (AC Milan, Sweden)

Only a few people in the world at the start of 2020 would have thought that Zlatan Ibrahimovic would be playing the Euros. Zlatan had already made himself available for his country even at the age of forty and was set to lead the attack for them. But unfortunately, an injury has ruled him out of the Euros, and he is set to spend a minimum of four weeks on the sidelines. Ibrahimovic might do the unthinkable and still play the following year’s world cup as his last marquee tournament before retiring, but till then, we can only wait.

1)Marc Andre Ter Stegen (FC Barcelona, Germany)

Ter Stegen has been ruled out due to a knee injury and would be missing the rest of the season, and missing the Euros as well. Ter Stegen has been the best player in his club’s defense this year, and has saved them many times from trouble. His injury means that Manuel Neuer would be the number one keeper for Germany. Both Neuer and Ter Stegen are the best keepers in the world, and were gunning for that role. Ter Stegen hoped his counterpart would do the part well and keep his country in the tournament by giving some match-defining moments.

These players were pretty keen on representing their country in the Euros but would not do so. They would be hoping to make a quick recovery for the upcoming season and expect their government to do well in their absence.
