Rahul Dravid, one of the greatest ever batsmen to grace cricket. He has been an icon to this game and still hasn’t stopped supporting and helping his country. He is one of the people you can bank on if your life’s on the line. On the other hand, Wasim Jaffer is one of the funniest and reliable people Indian domestic cricket has ever seen. He is the only player to play 150 matches in Ranji Trophy cricket. This statistic speaks volumes about his credibility as a player and as an individual.
Rahul Dravid is currently on tour with the Indian team as an interim head coach. The primary Indian side led by Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri is in England preparing for the test series starting in August. Dravid is one of the best coaches that Indian Cricket has seen. This can be seen with his performances as a head coach with the under 19 teams recently. He has played a massive role in the development of young players in Indian cricket. He was the head coach of the Under 19 Indian team that won the World Cup in New Zealand in 2019. The captain of that young side was Prithvi Shaw, and he is one of the critical members of the Indian side on this tour. Other players such as Shikhar Dhawan, Surya Kumar Yadav, amongst others, have also come out and said that they would learn a lot under the coaching of Rahul Dravid. Wasim Jaffer, former cricketer, and famous social media person, feel that Rahul Dravid shouldn’t be the team’s permanent head coach. He said this on his youtube channel, and he feels this because the current Indian team is doing very well under Ravi Shastri and company, and changing things might stop the process. He added that the younger generations of Indian cricket need his help, and this role of nurturing the young Indian talent might be the best suited for him. When this statement broke out, many fans agreed with him, and as he has done this role before and to perfection, he shouldn’t even mind continuing doing that.
When he was asked earlier about this position, Rahul Dravid has said that he is happy with where he is right now and believes the current team is performing exceptionally well under the guidance of Ravi Shastri. It remains to be seen what decision the BCCI has to take in the next cycle when the coaches apply again. Till then, we can wish both the coaches good luck with the upcoming tours.
