Tennis pro Emma Raducanu grabbed the attention of football fans across the world when she turned up in Tottenham’s jersey for a practise session. She was spotted wearing a No. 10 shirt with her name on it. The 2021 US Open Champion will be soon seen in action in Stuttgart Open.
Emma Raducanu later revealed that her whole family supports the Spurs, and that she was a huge fan of Harry Kane.
“My whole team basically are big Spurs fans and I feel like they’re egging me on,” explained Raducanu. “They’re desperately trying to get me behind them. I don’t necessarily follow football so much, but I feel like now because of them I’m feeling some sort of connection.”
Be it Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer, tennis superstars have never shied away from showing their love for football. Let’s take a look at the clubs some prominent tennis players support:
1. Rafael Nadal
While he was born in Mallorca, and his uncle played for Barcelona, Rafael Nadal has always been a massive Real Madrid supporter. In his autobiography, Rafa: My Story, the tennis pro recalled how as a kid he used to wake up at five in the morning to watch Los Blancos. He is often seen at the big-ticket football matches at Santiago Bernabeu, and the club president Florentino Perez also sees him as his worthy successor.
2. Roger Federer
Roger Federer’s allegiance is to FC Basel, a top-tier club based out in Switzerland. The football club has won the Swiss National Championship on 20 occasions, and regularly features in European competitions. Federer was once asked to join the club as president, but he declined due to his commitments to tennis.
3. Novak Djokovic
Born into a sports-loving family, Novak Djokovic’s love for AC Milan was planted by his father, who used to watch their game with great interest. Djokovic is quite close with AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
“I’m a fan of Milan. Hopefully we can see Ibrahimovic back on the field. I know he’s injured. He’s doing his recovery now and rehab. Hopefully, we can win the scudetto this year,” the tennis pro had said. “I’m in touch with Zlatan not all the time, but quite regularly.”
5.Milos Raonic
Arguably the most successful tennis player from Canada, Milos Raonic supports FC Barcelona, as he revealed once on Twitter. Earlier this year, Raonic pulled out of the Australian Open due to a recurrent injury.
