Shortly after Portugal’s loss to Chile in the semi-finals of the ongoing Confederations Cup, Cristiano Ronaldo confirmed that he has become a father to two twins via surrogacy. While the exact identity of the mother is not known, it’s reported that she is an American.

“I was in the service of the National Team, as it always happens, body and soul, even though I knew my two sons were born. Unfortunately, we have not been able to achieve the main sporting objective we wanted, but I am sure we will continue to give the Portuguese joy,” Ronaldo said on Facebook.

Before the twins, Ronaldo already has a seven-year old son named Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. Interestingly, his son seems to have inherited his father’s prodigious football skills and can dribble the ball past defenders with insane ease. But, the world (and Cristiano Jr.) don’t know about his mother’s identity.

In an interview with Jonathan Ross, Cristiano revealed that he didn’t feel bad about keeping Cristiano Jr’s mum away from him.

“For me it is not a problem. In the world, many kids don’t have mum, don’t have dads or dads die or mums die,” he said.

“When Cristiano is going to grow up, I am always going to say the truth to him because he deserves, because he is my son but I am not going to say because people want me to say,” he added.

Interestingly, the Real Madrid star’s mom had considered aborting him (imagine the tragedy, if she had gone ahead) and stated in a documentary on Ronaldo’s life, “He is a child that I wanted to abort. God didn’t want that to happen and I was blessed because of that and God didn’t punish me. Sometimes Ronaldo makes fun of me and says ‘You didn’t want me to be born. But now you see that I’m here helping all of you.’ And, well, sometimes we have a laugh about that.”

Ronaldo was in a high profile relationship with Irina Shayk, a supermodel. And is currently dating 22-year-old Georgina Rodriguez.
