Whenever you hear Chennai Super Kings’ word, the first thing you think about is Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The only person to captain the same IPL franchise for more than ten years and lift the title three times for Chennai. CSK and Dhoni go hand in hand and have achieved various things together. This includes IPL titles, going through tough times in UAE, and winning the champions league in the last decade. They had to separate when the franchise was suspended for two years for match-fixing, and Dhoni played for Pune Supergiants in 2016 and 2017.

Dhoni, who just turned 40 yesterday, has now retired himself from international cricket to spend time with his family and would focus on CSK during the times of the IPL. Last year, when he came for the toss in the first game of the IPL in UAE, the commentator asked him whether he will play the IPL after this or not? Dhoni replied, “Of Course not,” and meant that he would be around for a few more years. This is true that the Dhoni we knew from five-six years ago is an entirely different batsman, and that can be seen in the changes in the CSK batting order. He lets the likes of Sam Curran, Ravindra Jadeja bat higher up the order and goes for batting before him. He knows that these guys will be able to finish the games or hit crucial sixes at the end, which the team requires at that moment. CSK fans can’t imagine the team without Dhoni, and the attachment is unparalleled. There is more good news for CSK fans as their CEO Kasi Viswanathan said, “He can continue for another one or two years with CSK. He is fully fit and trains a lot. Don’t see any reason why he should stop.” As the mega auction is around the corner, CSK fans needed this belief and faith about Dhoni’s future which the CEO has undoubtedly answered. There is another thing that CSK fans would be wishing for, that is the return of the IPL title to them so that they can catch up to Mumbai Indians.
Dhoni and his future debates are sorted for a while now, and the CSK fans can sleep in peace. They would know be hoping that the team does well in the UAE edition of the IPL and continue to perform well as they did in the first part of the 2021 IPL season.
