Cristiano Ronaldo is facing massive online wrath for posing with the controversial Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson, and calling him a ‘friend’. In the picture, posted on Instagram a couple of days ago, Ronaldo called Peterson his good friend and vowed to meet him again. Peterson responded, “I’ve rarely met anyone who more clearly deserved what they earned. Good to meet you.”
The Canadian was employed with the University of Toronto as an emeritus professor of psychology till last year before he resigned from the post. He is now a full-time podcaster and delivers talks around the world.
Peterson has become a prominent figure in the alt-right movement, and his authoritative answers on a wide range of topics he has little knowledge about have made him the internet’s most disliked public intellectual.
Peterson vehemently denies the climate crisis, dismisses the gender pay gap, and calls feminism “an unconscious wish for brutal male domination”. He has also argued at length about the crisis of masculinity and mocked people for mental health issues.
He has made a career out of rallying against Marxists, human rights groups, feminists, mental health advocates, and of late the vaccine mandates imposed by Justin Trudeau’s government.
Ronaldo is slammed for promoting hateful figures like Peterson to his millions of followers. One fan wrote, “It is utterly disturbing to see Ronaldo posing with Jordan Peterson and calling him “my friend”. I am shocked and losing all respect for Ronaldo”.
Another joked, “The very concept of a conversation between Cristiano Ronaldo and Jordan Peterson is staggering Ol’ Ronnie going on about molding his son into a psychopath and Jordan squeakily crying at the beauty of it all.”
Ronaldo, meanwhile, started his first game of the season last week, in the Europa League clash against Real Sociedad. He is yet to start the game in the Premier League, as the new manager Erik ten Haag has gone ahead with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Antony Martial.
As per recent reports, Ronaldo is looking to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window. He tried hard to force an exit but couldn’t find buyers of his choice.
