Shreyas Iyer's stocks in Indian cricket continue to rise at a tremendous pace. A year after he led the Kolkata Knight Riders to the Indian Premier League championship, Iyer is now set to embark on his new journey with Punjab Kings. Iyer was paid a whopping ₹26.75 Crore in the mega-auction and now has been named as the captain of the franchise.
"I am honoured that the team has reposed its faith in me. I am looking forward to working again with Coach Ponting. The team looks strong, with a great mix of potential and proven performers. I hope to repay the faith shown by the management to deliver our maiden title."
In the last 12 months, Iyer has won four titles, including three with Mumbai domestic team. Given that he is the only player in the world to Captain three different IPL teams, it shouldn't come as a surprise if Iyer makes it to the final squad of the forthcoming Champions Trophy. He is always match fit, thanks to his rigorous training regime and diet plan.
Shreyas Iyer's Workout Routine
Being a great batsman comes from both, physical prowess and mental acumen. To achieve this delicate balance, Iyer starts his day with a ritual of meditation, gentle stretching, and yoga. This practice improves his mental resilience, allowing him to approach challenging situations with a calm demeanor at the crease.
After that, Iyer gets some cardio in to go for a run or a swim that helps him to maintain agility. Thanks to his iron-willed dedication to running, he's one of the sharpest fielders in the team, and can also bat for a long stretch without any physical issues.
A casual scroll through Iyer's Instagram is enough to know how obsessed he is with the gym. He never misses a gym session and often posts videos of his intense workout for his millions of his Instagram followers to get inspired from. The right-handed batter mainly focuses on strengthening the lower body, back and core. Iyer also does TRX training, a set of exercises that uses gravity and your body weight to make workouts more challenging. It helps to strengthen the core and enhance flexibility and balance.
When on tour, long-distance running may not always be a possibility. So, Iyer likes to sweat it out on indoor cycling, also known as spinning, which helps in burning calories.
