Team India coach Rahul Dravid gave a morale-boosting dressing room speech after India defeated Sri Lanka in the most remarkable turnaround. Take a look at the video, which will make you fall in awe of “The Wall”.
Cricket veterans and experts like VVS Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, and Jamie Alter applauded the fighting spirit of this Indian side, and also made a cheeky remark on the Sri Lankan coach, Micky Arthur who was clearly not very happy with the performance of the Lankans.
In the match, Sri Lanka opted to bat first, and the openers, Avishka Fernando and Minod Bhanuka, started the innings in a compelling fashion, with the duo contributing 77 runs. The Indian bowlers came back and attacked the batsman, and Lankan lions were reduced to 134-4, but Asalanka and Karunaratne fought back and made 65 and 44 not out respectively which lead Sri Lanka to make 275 at the loss of 9 wickets, with Indian spinners fighting back and the bowlers adjusting their line and lengths when Sri Lankan batsmen were in.
Indian batsmen came out with an optimism and belief that they can chase the game again like in the previous ODI, but their belief was soon to be shattered by Hasaranga, who dismissed Dhawan and Shaw early on in the innings, Ishan Kishan was also dismissed after scoring just a single run. Later, Manish Pandey and Suryakumar Yadav started the fightback with the duo, slowly and steadily gathering runs but Pandey, in an unfortunate manner, was run out and in the same over, Hardik Pandya went out for a duck. The situation was bleak, and Sri Lanka was nearing a victory, but Suryakumar Yadav and Krunal Pandya didn’t give up, and gave Indians hope which was soon to be taken away by Hasaranga again. At 193/7, all hopes were lost, and when no one expected Deepak Chahar stepped up along with Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. The partnership of 84 runs off 84 balls resulted in the heartbreak of the Lankans with Chahar finishing in style with a six, and India winning the game.
