India had a mixture of experience and youth in their contingent for the Asian Boxing Championship. Mary Kom, 38, took to the ring for the seventh time and made an impressive start to the match by winning the first round comfortably. After that, she started to face difficulties as her opponent tried to outsmart her and outclassed the Indian veteran. Kom tried and fought back in the final minutes, but it was too little too late till then. This was her second-ever silver at the championships, and she has won five gold in the previous editions. The first one of those rare golds came for her in 2003.

Defending champion Pooja Rana won and continued her dominance in the championships after securing an easy win in the finals over her opponent from Uzbekistan. It was a tight match at the start of the proceedings, but it became a dominant show by Pooja Rana after a while. She secured the win quickly and won the gold medal. This was the only match she had in the tournament as she got a walkover and a bye earlier in the tournament. The other two women boxers, Lalbuatsaihi and Anupama, made their debut in the tournament and also won the silver medals. All three (Lalbuatsaihi, Mary Kom, and Anupama) received five thousand dollars along with their silver medals. All of the boxers are Olympic bound and would be looking to win some awards for their country.

The Asian boxing championship is far from over. The male Indian boxers will fight it out in the finals and hope to add more medals to the Indian contingent. The boxers have performed exceptionally well and have made their country proud with their outstanding achievement.
